music: king krule

since i first heard king krule under the name zoo kid i’ve been hooked. i love almost everything about archy marshall. he is young, talented and he delivers live. when me and robert saw him live in manchester in october i couldn’t have asked for anything different (except for maybe a different encore song). he raps, he dances, he plays guitar and even if he has a really non-attractive accent when speaking, it doesn’t matter, his music is great.

his voice deserves an own chapter, cause you would never expect a voice that deep to come from a 19-year old boy. which makes the music greater and even more powerful. i’m not gonna try to describe it any further, it deserves a listen of it’s own.

it is hard to specify what kind of music he squeezes out from his guitar, but a mix of everything good, like punk jazz and trip hop would maybe begin to try and describe it. with that i’m gonna leave you with my favourite track from the album, which is a lizard state.

6 feet beneath the moon is definitely my most listened to album of 2013.

what is your most listened to album of 2013 and why?

about: mail

since i was little i’ve loved mail. the feeling of going to the mailbox to see if there was anything for me was one of my favourites. so from an early age i started having pen pals. i put in ads in magazine, like norwegian topp and swedish okej to vary the people that would contact me.

so from when i was like 8-9 years old i had pen pals from both sweden and norway. i also wrote my cousins in the united states.

now, with the internet you can choose to communicate with people all over instantly and there are also many fascinating ways where you can still receive mail. and i thought i would like to share some of those with you.

postcrossing
this might be my favourite type of “receiving mail” at the moment. you send out postcards to people all over the world, and you get postcards back, from other people! in your profile you can ask for a motif, what the people should write about, whatever. and then you just start sending.

reddit
you might not have thought so. but reddit has a lot of funny gift exchanges a lot of the time for people who are interested in everything/some of the things that goes on at reddit. i’ve participated in two, a secret santa one and a lunch box one. the lunch box one is not over yet, so i’m still really excited for that one. and reddit is also funny for everything else.

you can also write an ad on reddit that you want pen pals. they have an own forum for that.

write a prisoner
i’ve tried this several times, but i think that since i lived in norway the letters didn’t reach always reach me. or the prisoners didn’t have enough money to send me letters that often. well. writing to a prisoner is an interesting experience, cause you always hear about it in american movies. the reason i wanted to try it was for a school project, but then i just kept on going. the website is fascinating by itself, you can look at all the people to write to, their photos and their crimes. (i didn’t know that this was allowed).

or you can just stay simple, send postcards to your family and friends when you go on holiday. then you might get ones in return. or you can just mail me, i will be sure to answer!

what is your best tips for receiving mail? (other than buying stuff online)

red hot

i think it was in november when i discovered this amazing project by thomas knights, called red hot. basically it is about changing the ginger stereotype from being considered ugly to being a hottie. i’ve always fancied gingers, so i loved the idea and i’ve read about it everywhere! you can read and look at more amazing pictures here. when i first heard about it, i was absolutely sure that i had to go to the exhibition. and i did.  it was one of the best exhibitions i’ve ever been to.

these are the emotions i went through when i went to the exhibition:
– coming to heaven.
– wanting to marry all of the boys in the pictures.
– a bit of embarrassment for traveling all the way just to look at hot men.
– a lot of fun and i also wish i had come up with the idea so i could have met all gingers.

here are some photos of my favourites from the exhibition:

and the best part about red hot, is that all the money goes to anti-bullying! so if you like gingers just as much as i do, i would strongly advise you to get a calendar. just like i did (well, i got two, cause i am (mildly) obsessed) from here. me and my friend also went for the red hot danse party in soho, london. where we got to meet all of the models and we also got our calendars signed at prowler. which was a weird experience, but definitely a good one.

look at these good looking calenders:

so, what colour of hair do you prefer if you do prefer one? and if not, why don’t you?

book-away

i live in england. and i buy a lot of books from norway. i get gifted books and i buy them at my local charity shops. i read them and then i do nothing about them. they just pile up. so this year i was thinking that i was going to do a book-away. i have already started, by re-gifting books that suit my friends and family. i think it is a great idea.

the rules are simple:
– whenever i buy a book i have to give it away when i’ve read it.
– leave a comment with your e-mail adress if you would like to enter this book-away.
– if you’ve won the book-away, i’ll send you an e-mail a week after the post has been posted on my website to confirm your address.
– you’ll receive the book i’ve read in the shape/form that i bought it and used it.

this makes my life more simple, i can do a good deed and people can get to read more books for free.

so the first book i will be giving away in this book-away is the book: we need to talk about kevin. i’ve just started reading this and i think this is an absolutely fantastic book in terms of mother/son relationships. so if you would like to win this book, pop me a comment with your favourite book of 2013.
